Dr Skouri is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine-Cardiology and a Heart Failure specialist based at American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), Beirut. He is currently the Director of the Cardiac Care Unit, director of Samir Alam Heart Failure Unit and the Heart Failure Program and Coordinator of the cardio-oncology service at AUBMC as well as the co chairman of the heart failure working group at the Lebanese Society of Cardiology (LSC). He is member of several cardiac and heart failure societies as well as member of several committees. He has spent almost two decades building his knowledge in heart disease treatment and care. He notably completed a two year fellowship in heart failure and transplantation at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota and Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland Ohio. In Beirut, Dr. Skouri has led the development of the Advanced Heart Failure program at AUBMC, in addition to serving (currently) as a key member of several committees of Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology including the Acute Heart failure committee, the National Heart Failure Societies committee, cardiomyopathy committee, heartfailure matters committee, Cardio renal and cardio-oncology study groups at HFA. He led the first Left Ventricular Assist device (LVAD) in Lebanon and the Arab region in 2009. He also had led the Arabic translation of the website “heartfaiurematters.org”, the largest HF educational website. He chaired the Lebanese Society of Cardiology’s Heart Failure Working Group from 2009 to 2015 and 2017-2019. From 2015 to 2017 and currently serving as a member of the LSC executive board and co-chairman of the HF Working group at LSC. In 2013 he became the first Fellow of the Heart Failure Association in the Middle East region. He has led a number of National activities including the first Middle East Heart Failure Congress (May 2012) which is being held every two years, and initiated the Lebanese Heart Failure Awareness campaigns in collaboration with the European Society of Cardiology since 2010 and has been awarded from HFA in 2012,2013,2018 and 2019. Also He is an active member of the Gulf/Middle East Heart Failure Academy. He participated and has been participating in several meetings and congresses nationally, regionally and internationally including the American College of Cardiology-Middle East, Heart Failure Association of the ESC, Emirates cardiac society, Jordanian cardiac society, Egyptian cardiac society as well as Georgian and Turkish heart failure and cardiothoracic societies respectively. Dr. Skouri has written more than 50 published papers as major contributor as well as multiple abstracts and co-authored five recent position statements from the Heart Failure Association. Recently he coauthored a Lancet publication. He is also active in research and served as a National investigator/coordinator for several multinational research projects.
